CLASS and MECHANISM of Action
Generic Evista belongs to a class of non-hormonal medicines called Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs). Generic Evista prevents and treats osteoporosis by actually helping make your bones stronger and less likely to break.
Generic Evista has been shown to decrease the risk of fractures of the spine. While preventing and treating osteoporosis in women who are past menopause, Generic Evista also:
- Does not increase the risk of breast or uterine cancer. Women taking EVISTA had no increased risk of breast or uterine cancer in clinical studies. It has not been established if EVISTA is able to reduce the risk of breast cancer.
- Does not cause breast tenderness or vaginal bleeding. Women taking EVISTA and women taking placebo (sugar pill) experienced no difference in breast tenderness or vaginal bleeding in clinical studies.
Active Ingredients: raloxifene hydrochloride
Inactive Ingredients: anhydrous lactose, carnauba wax, crospovidone, FD& C Blue No. 2 aluminum lake, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, modified pharmaceutical glaze, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, povidone, propylene glycol, and titanium dioxide.
What is Generic Evista PRESCRIBED For?
Commonly Generic Evista is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your health care professional. Generic Evista is structurally different from hormones, including estrogens and progestins.
How Should I Take Generic Evista?
It is recommended to take Generic Evista at the same time each day. It makes no importance if you take this medicine with or without food. You should keep on diet and if you do not receive enough calcium and vitamin D from it your doctor may prescribe you supplements with these substances.
Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F).
Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic Evista?
Generic Evista is contraindicated to women that are pregnant or could become pregnant. Generic Evista could harm your unborn child. It is also contraindicated to women that are breast-feeding. Generic Evista passes into milk.
Persons that have had blood clots that required a doctor’s treatment should not use Generic Evista. Taking Generic Evista may increase the risk of getting these blood clots. While infrequent, these clots can cause serious medical problems, disability or death.
Generic Evista is contraindicated to persons that are allergic to this medicine or any its ingredients. If you didn’t pass the menopause then Generic Evista is contraindicated.
What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose.
NOTE: Do not take a double dose of this medication.
What happens if I OVERDOSE?
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect a Generic Evista overdose, seek medical attention immediately
What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic Evista?
Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur.
Continue to take Generic Evista and talk to your health care professional if you experience:
- leg cramps,
- muscle soreness,
- weight gain,
- sweating,
- hot flashes, or
- a rash
.
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Generic Evista and seek emergency medical attention or notify your health care professional:
- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- sharp pain in the legs;
- swelling of the legs;
- sudden chest pain;
- coughing up blood;
- changes in vision; or
- unexplained vaginal bleeding.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your health care professional about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic Evista?
Tell your health care professional about:
- all other medicines you are taking including non-prescription medicines;
- if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol;
- if you smoke;
- if you use illegal drugs.
These can affect the way Generic Evista works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
Generic Evista may interact also with ampicillin thyroid hormones and herbal or dietary supplements. Make sure that your health care professional knows about all medicines you are taking in order to avoid unwanted consequences.
Additional Information
Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
