Generic Avapro is among a class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers. It block angiotensin II, a chemical that causes the arteries and veins to narrow, from attaching to the arteries and veins and causing them to narrow. Generic Avapro controls high blood pressure, but it is not a cure. High blood pressure can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure. Generic Avapro helps prevent these things from happening.
Active Ingredients: Irbesartan
Inactive Ingredients: pregelatinized starch, croscarmellose sodium, lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, poloxamer 188, silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate
What is Generic Avapro PRESCRIBED For?
Generic Avapro is prescribed for high blood pressure. Generic Avapro works by preventing the hormone angiotensin II from narrowing the blood vessels, an action that tends to raise blood pressure.
How Should I Take Generic Avapro?
Generic Avapro can be administrated with or without food but necessarily with a full glass of water. Generic Avapro should not be taken longer than recommended by your health care professional.
Your blood pressure need to be checked on a regular basis in order to be sure that Generic Avapro is helping your condition. Your kidney and liver function may also need to be tested.
If you are being treated for high blood pressure, keep using this Generic Avapro even if you feel fine. High blood pressure often has no symptoms.
Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
Do not store Generic Avapro in the bathroom or near a sink.
Keep Generic Avapro tablets in the blister pack until it is time to take them. If you take the tablets out of the blister pack they may not keep well.
Keep Generic Avapro tablets in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 25 degrees C.
What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic Avapro?
Generic Avapro is contraindicated to persons that:
- have recently had excessive vomiting or diarrhoea;
- are strictly restricting your salt intake
- suffer from any medical conditions especially - kidney or heart problems liver problems, or have had liver problems in the past
- are lactose intolerant or have had any allergies to any other medicine or any other substances, such as foods, preservatives or dyes.
If you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant than Generic Avapro is contraindicated. Your baby may absorb this medicine in the womb and there is a possibility of harm to the baby. Generic avapro is also contraindicated to women that are breast-feeding.
What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time.
NOTE: Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I OVERDOSE?
Symptoms of a Generic Avapro overdose may include fast or slow heartbeat, feeling light-headed, or fainting. If an overdose is suspected call your local emergency immediately.
What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic Avapro?
Some side effects that usually do not require medical attention are:
- cough;
- diarrhea;
- fatigue or tiredness;
- congestion or stuffiness;
- sore or cramping muscles;
- upset stomach.
If the above side effects continue or are bothersome consult your health care professional.
Some side effects are rare or uncommon:
- difficulty breathing or swallowing, hoarseness, or tightening of the throat;
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, hands, or feet; unusual rash or hives;
- decreased sexual function.
Other side effects:
- confusion, dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting spells;
- decreased amount of urine passed;
- fast or uneven heart beat or palpitations.
You may experience dizziness. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires mental alertness until you know how Generic Avapro affects you. To avoid dizziness, do not stand or sit up quickly.
What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic Avapro?
Generic Avapro can increase the concentration of potassium in blood. Generic Avapro should not be taken with other medicines that also increase the potassium level in blood.
It can interact with the following medicines:
- hydrochlorothiazide (Dyazide);
- spironolactone (Aldactone);
- as well as potassium supplements.
Additional Information
Blood pressure should be checked on a regular base. When you check your blood pressure, write down the measurements to show your health care professional. If you are taking Generic Avapro for a long time you must visit your health care professional for regular checks on your progress.
